In 2005, the Watershed Management Plan (WMP) for the Lauramie Creek Watershed was completed and is intended to be a guiding document describing the current water conditions, prioritizing water resource issues, and identifying management actions to be implemented.
The water quality concerns outlined in the WMP included elevated concentrations of E. coli and nutrients, sedimentation of water systems, and the potential for toxic chemicals associated with traffic accidents and hazardous spills to enter Lauramie Creek. Sediments, nutrients, and E. coli bacteria may enter waterways from agricultural lands, impervious surfaces, and failing residential septic systems. Increased sedimentation is also linked to severely eroded streambanks and the lack of a healthy riparian corridor or agricultural filterstrips in the watershed.
