Detrash the Wabash, 2010
On April 10th, 2010 the Tippecanoe County Partnership for Water Quality assisted with the 6th annual Detrash the Wabash river clean up. Planning for the event began in February with the TCPWQ as a member of their Detrash steering committee. Sunny skies and warmer temperatures brought out over 250 volunteers to pick up trash along the riverbanks.
Don Emmert of the TCPWQ led a group of 11 volunteers to the Lafayette portion of the Wabash that was adopted through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Adopt-A-River program. This was the third of four clean-ups required of the TCPWQ to fulfill IDNR’s Adopt-A-river program. Notable items of trash that were pulled from the riverbank included; 3 tires, 2 toilets, and a rusty barbed wire fence.
